Amuwo Odofin has recorded another milestone in industrial development as Transgreen Nigeria Limited officially commissioned its state-of-the-art O-Care Disposable Syringe factory. The facility, located within the Amuwo Odofin Industrial Cluster, is the first of its kind in Lagos State, aimed at producing high-quality, sterile syringes that meet global standards.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the project as a game-changer for the healthcare and manufacturing sectors. He highlighted that the factory aligns with Lagos State’s vision of becoming a leading hub for industrial innovation, job creation, and healthcare self-sufficiency.
“This project is a significant step towards reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported medical devices,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said. “It promotes local manufacturing, creates jobs for our people, and strengthens our healthcare system. I commend Transgreen Nigeria Limited for this monumental achievement and appreciate NAFDAC’s role in ensuring quality and safety.”
Also speaking at the event was Dr. Abdul Muktar, representing the Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate. Dr. Muktar lauded the facility as a milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward self-reliance in healthcare.
He praised the visionary leadership of Mr. Cyprian Orakpo, Managing Director of Transgreen Nigeria Limited, for his resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. “From humble beginnings as a trader in audio/video tapes, Mr. Orakpo has grown to become a trailblazer in medical device manufacturing,” Muktar said. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, Transgreen became the first Nigerian manufacturer of medical face masks. Today, they continue to lead with this syringe factory, supporting the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain.”
In his remarks, Mr. Orakpo expressed gratitude to Lagos State, the Federal Government, and financial partners who supported the project. “This factory is a significant milestone in our quest to deliver world-class medical consumables made in Nigeria. We are proud to contribute to the healthcare sector and are committed to expanding operations to meet Nigeria’s growing healthcare needs,” he said.
Mr. Orakpo also appealed to the Lagos State Government to rehabilitate Alakoso Avenue—the major access road to the industrial cluster—by providing drainage systems, street lighting, and removing illegal toll collectors disrupting business activities in the area.
The commissioning ceremony, held yesterday, attracted dignitaries from various sectors. Among them were Governor Sanwo-Olu and his wife, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health, UNICEF, NAFDAC, and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).
With the launch of the O-Care Disposable Syringe factory, Amuwo Odofin strengthens its position as a rising industrial hub, while Transgreen Nigeria Limited takes a bold step in advancing Nigeria’s healthcare manufacturing capacity.
