The lawmaker representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. MojisolaOluwa Alli-Macaulay recently fulfilled one of her campaign promises as she gave out over 100,000 exercise books.
The books were given to the students and pupils in private and public primary and secondary schools in commemoration of this year’s children’s day.
The lawmaker, who doubles as the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Poverty Alleviation and Job Creation said that every child deserved to be educated and not just education, but good education, adding that education should be taken seriously as the children are the leaders of tomorrow.
She is also sharing in the vision of the Lagos State Government to take as many children out of the streets and put them in school as we have overwhelming number of out-of-school children.
Under her Child Education and Social Support programme, Hon.Alli-Macaulay is also trying to reach out to schools children and she is working with Amuwo-Odofin chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) so that they could bring more games to the schools encourage students to stay in schools.
The lawmaker stressed in an interview with journalists that the Lagos State Government has also made it a priority to put laws in place that would make every parent to be responsible in that regard, saying that the gesture was her own contribution in support of the policy.
“I am excited about it and I know we will make an impact in Lagos State. We are lucky to have been blessed with children. For me, children are the most precious gifts and blessings and I cherish every moment I spend with them. I am using this opportunity to wish every child a happy children’s day, remember every child is your child,” she said.
Hon. Alli-Macaulay, popularly called Mama Amuwo has also denied an allegation that she converted the items that were meant to be distributed to her constituents as COVID-19 palliatives to gifts in celebration of her birthday.
Commenting on the allegation that she used the palliatives she was given to distribute to people to celebrate her birthday, Hon. Alli-Macaulay said that she deliberately decided to be quiet on the matter, which was why she had not come out to say anything about the allegation since it happened last year.
She said “The ceremony was a dual celebration; my birthday and women empowerment program. It was a coincident that the 90 cartons of noodles came at the same time and we had to share them to the people that they were meant for.
“As I was celebrating my birthday, I gave out sewing machines, popcorn machines, heavy duty grinding machines, generators, hair dryers to over 20 women groups in my constituency, we have pictures as proof.
“I am a woman of compassion. I can never convert what is meant for the people to something else. Even before I became a lawmaker in 2019, I had always touched people’s lives and my office has so far helped over 2,000 people and we have all these documented. Anyone can walk in and have a look at the records, I have nothing to hide,” she said.
She then admonished everyone to develop a heart of giving and helping people around them, especially those in need, adding that she would continue to do her best for humanity at all times.
It should be noted that Hon. Alli-Macaulay has been giving qualitative representation on the floor of the house for the people and she has been making her voice to be heard as at when necessary.
This has earned her respect among her colleagues and she is seen as the voice of the voiceless, a true representative of the people and one of the best and vibrant female lawmaker.
