The Valentine Buraimoh led administration have kicked off series of programs to celebrate our one year in office, Amuwo LG 365 Days in Office.

According to the Chairman, Comrade Valentine Buraimoh at the media parley to mark Amuwo LG 365 Days in Office,

Amuwo Odofin local government under my able leadership had been working closely with the ideas, ideals and vision of our amiable action Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.
Toeing the same line of action with His Excellency’s policy, my administration with the limited resources at my disposal has been able to impact positively on the good people of Amuwo Odofin local government.
As you are all aware, Amuwo Odofin local government, a cosmopolitan in nature needs prudence and capability to manage its affairs.

Amuwo LG 365 Days In Office, 8 Sectors & 55 Achievements

These are some of the achievements carried out by the current administration in the last 365 days.

WORKS & INFRASTRUCTURE

The development of infrastructure facilities is the key indicator for measuring any societal development.

It is instructive to state that we are aware of the bad state of some of our roads, but I want to assure you that my administration will commence the repairs of these roads after the raining season. – Valentine Buraimoh
  1. Reconstructed a section of 1st avenue road,
  2. Reconstructed section of 11 road,
  3. Reconstructed section of 4th avenue road
  4. Asphalt patching of potholes at 3rd avenue road
  5. Asphalt patching of potholes at 41 road in Festac Town,
  6. Asphalt patching of potholes at the back of Fatgbems, Mile 2, Lagos.
  7. Renovation of  the Primary Health Care centre in Festac Town
  8. Construction of 6-blocks of classrooms at Unity Primary school, Mile 2
  9. Renovation of the two-storey building of Unity Primary School, Mile 2
  10. Renovation of the two-storey building of Amuwo Primary school, Mile 2
  11. Current renovation of 3rd avenue Primary school and Ideal Primary School, Festac Town

 

EDUCATION

In regards the education sector, the current administration according to the chairman on assumption of office, a committee headed by the Vice Chairman was set-up  to look into the deplorable state of our schools, with a view to getting the true condition of things.

See below the submitted report by the committee,

  1.  free UTME/JAMB forms to indigent students to help them further their educational pursuit
  2. Invited school pupils to the campaign programme on the danger in cultism
  3. Awareness campaign summit on security within the school environment
  4. Held stakeholders meeting on sensitization on kick off literacy in Lagos State
  5. Hosted Public Nursery & Primary Schools, as well as, St. Jude’s Private school for the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day
  6. Organized 2017 Adult literacy Quiz Competition
  7. Held Stakeholders forum on children mass failure/poor performances in public schools within Amuwo Odofin LGA

ENVIRONMENTAL & HEALTH SERVICE

The Local Government so far has carried out regular d-weeding and continued refuse clearing in the LG in other to prevent all possible diseases outbreak related to indiscriminate and insanitary dumping of refuse.

Amongst the other numerous activities of the aforementioned are:

  1. Sanitization of 7th avenue (A –Z close), Festac town, Lagos
  2. Desilting of the manholes at 7th avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.
  3. Desilting of the manholes at 2nd avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.
  4. Desiliting of Buffer zone on 2nd avenue, Festac Town, Lagos
  5. Evacuation of refuse black spot on durbar road, mile 2, Amuwo
  6. Evacuation of refuse black spot on Gani Adams road , Abule Ado
  7. Evacuation of refuse black spot at Abule Ado B/stop
  8. Evacuation of refuse black spot on Circular road, Mile 2, Amuwo
  9. Sanitization of 201 Junction, Festac Town, Lagos.
  10. Sanitization of 202 Junction, Festac Town, Lagos.
  11. Cutting down and clearing of grasses on 1st avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.
  12. Cutting down and clearing of grasses in and around 4th Avenue Primary School, 512 Primary School, 3rd Avenue Primary School and UBE Primary School, Festac Town, Lagos
  13. Cutting down and clearing of grasses in and around 5th avenue primary school and central nursery and Primary School, Festac Town, Lagos
  14. Vegetal nuisance are being cleared in and around the local government on regular basis
  15. Tree Planting Exercise

REVENUE GENERATION

The Local Government like every other tier of government felt the adverse effect of the economic downturn of the country resulting in the dwindling Federal allocation.

However, being a proactive government, we decided to look inward for revenue generation to meet up with some of our obligations. In this vain, efforts were intensified at pushing up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as mandated by the state government.

As we speak, our revenue officers had been engaging in aggressive revenue drive. Presently, revenue enforcement is being carried out on defaulters and that is equally yielding fruit.

Let me use this opportunity to appeal to our people to please pay their rates and levies promptly for us to continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy. – Valentine Buraimoh

HUMAN RESOURCES

The Human Resources department which is the engine room of the local government have been able to put together capacity building and training for junior and senior members of staff with the sole aim of availing them with modern techniques.

Also, as part of motivation for workers, the local government rewarded some members of staff who had distinguished themselves in their various official duties, most especially the revenue officers.

NULGE  was reinforced with plans for a revolving of  loan for its members, as well as,  cash and cheque presentation for financial assistance to staffs of the Local government was carried out.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT

  1. Below are the achievements of the health sector in Amuwo-Odofin LG
  2. Payment of card at all  PHCs have been stopped.
  3. Plans have been concluded to renovate  the PHC at Abule Ado, Lagos.
  4. Also 24 hours running of  the Mile 2 PHC from August 7th
  5. Sponsored Nurses training to the national Association of Nigeria nurses and Midwives, Lagos state.
  6. Awareness campaign on outbreak of Lassa fever and Cholera
  7. Awareness campaign on fake drugs in Amuwo Odofin LGA
  8. Observed the World Breast Feed Week.
  9. We also visited the 4th Avenue Nursery and Primary school, Festac Town, Lagos
  10. We also held various medical mission including free medical tests, Immunization days plus amongst others.

AGRIC, SOCIAL & DEVELOPMENT

  1. The Amuwo-LG has so far  taken giant and commendable step to harness all the resources for socio-economic development of the community.
  2. Collaboration with the Church of Pentecost, Anglican Communion, Festac Town to engage the youths on skill acquisition.
  3. Regular hosting of CDC monthly general meeting
  4. Regular servicing of CDC monthly impress of its principal officers
  5. Sponsored Local government contingents to the 12th edition of Inter-Agency football competition- ‘HOS’ Cup and preparations is in top gear for this year’s edition.
  6. Participated at the World food Day celebration, where we emerged as Runner-up
  7. Purchased, distributed and transported Lake Rice to community members
  8. Financial assistance to community members purchased Ankara Materials to community members towards the year 2017 Community Day celebration

SECURITY

According to the LG Boss, utmost attention to security and allied matters has been given and Amuwo-Odofin now enjoys relative peace.

When we assumed office, we held the maiden peace and security meeting and I think the result of the meeting is already yielding positive result. I would also like to commend men and officers of our security outfits for their dedication to duty. – Valentine Buraimoh

In concluding the media briefing, the chairman ended with the following closing remarks,

I wish to state here again today, that our administration remains focused in our desire to serve and improve the living conditions of our people through the implementation of people-oriented programmes.

We will always open our doors and explore areas of cooperation to stakeholders and organizations that are interested in moving our Community forward.

We will continue to pursue people oriented programmes for the betterment of our people that we are serving.
