The Amuwo-Odofin community is in mourning following the passing of one of its most esteemed elders, Pa Jola Ogunlusi, who died peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at approximately 9:54 a.m. after a brief illness. He was 91.

Pa Ogunlusi was not just a resident of Festac Town, he was a pillar, a mentor, and a driving force behind the development and unity of the community. As one of the earliest allottees to Festac Town in 1978, he played a pioneering role in shaping the neighborhood, nurturing it from its early days into the vibrant community it is today.
A former journalist who began his career in the early 1970s, Pa Ogunlusi rose through the ranks to become the National Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). His journalism career was marked by integrity, passion, and a commitment to justice ,values he carried into every facet of his life.
His leadership extended beyond the newsroom. Pa Ogunlusi was the first president of the Festac Town Residents Association (FTRA) and a staunch advocate for community development. He also served as the Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC), Amuwo-Odofin Chapter, where his unwavering dedication left a lasting impact. His relentless efforts, alongside other community leaders, were instrumental in the eventual creation of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
A devoted family man, Pa Ogunlusi was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and patriarch. His warmth, generosity, and wisdom touched countless lives from his immediate family to neighbors, friends, colleagues, and even those who only briefly encountered him.

He was a man of deep conviction and a vocal advocate for preserving the original vision of Festac Town. He remained active in civic affairs well into his later years, continuing to champion fairness, equity, and the betterment of society.
As the community grapples with this great loss, we remember a man who truly embodied the spirit of service and selflessness. Pa Jola Ogunlusi’s legacy will continue to inspire current and future generations in Amuwo-Odofin and beyond.
