Amidst the jubilation of the new year, Five babies were welcomed as the first babies of the year in Lagos state and Amuwo-Odofin welcomed two out of the five . As its a tradition to celebrate with the first babies of the year in the state yearly, a ceremony was held on the 1st of January 2024.
This year four hospitals in hospitals had the first babies of the year namely, Badagry General Hospital, Maternal Child Centre (MCC) Amuwo-Odofin, Ajeromi General Hospital and the Apapa General Hospital.
The ceremony and celebration was held at the Amuwo-Odofin MCC and present at the occasion were dignitaries parents and well-wishers. Present at the ceremony was the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who welcomed and presented gifts items to the first babies of the year in the hospitals mentioned.
The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries including the Wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Oluremi Hamzat, Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, Body of Permanent Secretaries, Council of Wives of Lagos State Officials, Local Government Chairmen and top Government officials. Also present was Executive Chairman of Oriade LCDA, Hon. Ramotalai Akinola Hassan , Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LG, Hon. Valentine Buraimoh, Hon. Oluwaseun Ogundero Supervisor for Health, Oriade LCDA and many others.
In Amuwo-Odofin, two newborns, twin boys were recorded as the first babies of the year, at the Amuwo Maternal and Child Care Centre (MCC) on Monday, 1st of January, 2024. The twins were born at 12:07am and 12:09am through Caesarean Section by Mrs. Salaudeen. The first child, a Male, weighing 3.0Kg was delivered at exactly 12:07 AM; the second child, also a Male who weighed 3.05Kg was delivered at 12:09 AM
Baby Echo-Harry, a Male who weighed 3.6 kg delivered at exactly 12:04 AM by Mrs. Echo-Harry is the first baby of the year at the Badagry General Hospital. At Ajeromi, Baby Balogun a Male who weighed 2.9Kg and delivered at 12:01 AM by Mrs. Balogun and while the first baby of the year at the Apapa General Hospital is Baby Rafiu Rachael a Male who weighed 2.6Kg and delivered at 12:38 AM by Mrs. Rafiu Rachael.
