As the 2025 local government elections draw closer, Festac Town and the entire Amuwo-Odofin community are abuzz with anticipation. Among the notable aspirants vying for the office of Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area is Adelegan Michael Kolawole, a seasoned grassroots politician and a committed advocate for community development.
Born and raised in Festac Town, Kolawole is a familiar face in the community he hopes to lead. His educational journey began at Subola Nursery and Primary School (now STEE) and continued at 4th Avenue Primary School, where he earned his First School Leaving Certificate. He completed his secondary education at Festac College before pursuing an LLB (Law) degree from the National Open University of Nigeria. A member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Kolawole has also built a successful career as a real estate professional.
Kolawole’s political journey began in 2007, inspired by his passion for community service. Since then, he has served in various leadership positions within the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Youth Leader (Zone 7, Community 2, Festac Town), Secretary of the Festac Town Residents Association (FTRA), and Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government on Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations. His extensive experience in local governance has prepared him for the task of leading the local government.
In a recent conversation, Kolawole emphasized that his decision to run for Executive Chairman is driven by a commitment to transformational leadership and a deep love for the people of Amuwo-Odofin.
“My candidacy is about building a better community for everyone from Festac Town to Mile 2, Abule-Ado, and our Riverine areas. I have always been passionate about grassroots progress, and now, I want to elevate our impact.”
Kolawole outlined three major issues he intends to address if elected:
- Road Infrastructure: Kolawole plans to tackle the problem of poor roads through partnerships with FERMA, Lagos State Public Works, and other stakeholders. His approach will focus on community-driven, transparent, and sustainable road projects.
- Security and Okada Regulation: To ensure public safety, he proposes a comprehensive registration and identification system for commercial motorcyclists, working closely with law enforcement agencies.
- Environmental Sanitation: Kolawole is committed to restoring drainage systems, launching public sanitation awareness campaigns, and implementing a sustainable waste management framework in collaboration with LAWMA.
When asked how he intends to stay connected with the people if elected, Kolawole emphasized the importance of direct engagement.
“Leadership should be by the people, with the people, and for the people. I will maintain an open-door policy, conduct regular town hall meetings, and establish a Citizens’ Advisory Council to ensure transparency and accountability.”
His message to the people of Amuwo-Odofin is clear:
