As the 2025 local government elections approach, Festaconline Newsmedia continues its commitment to spotlighting credible aspirants across Amuwo Odofin LGA. In this edition of Meet the Candidates, we introduce Gbenga Nathaniel Akinbinu, a dedicated community leader with deep roots in the Amuwo community and a passion for impactful leadership in his ward.
Position Contested and Ward
Gbenga Akinbinu is contesting for the office of Councilor in Ward C, Amuwo Odofin LGA under the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Background and Experience
Gbenga Nathaniel Akinbinu was born and brought up in Festac town Lagos. He attended 5th Avenue Primary School, Festac Town, and proceeded to Festac Grammar School for his secondary education and thereafter gained admission and subsequently graduated from Yaba College of Technology.
Akinbinu has also served his community in various ways and offices. He was the former Vice Chairman and also was the Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria Amuwo Odofin branch. He served as the youth President Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) Festac Town and also has served as senior special assistance on Project, Senior special assistance on Youth Sports and social development within the Amuwo-Odofin LGA.
He is currently serving as an executive Cabinet member as the Supervisor for Environment Amuwo-OdofinLG.
Why He’s Running
Being born and bred here in Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Gbenga quest to run for this office is to further contribute his quota to community development. In his words “It’s simply my passion to serve my people and create positive impact’. Akinbinu is well abreast of the yearnings of our people. “I want to bring my leadership acumen to bear by representing the good people of my ward and speaking well on their behalf in order to attract the attention and presence of the local government to Ward C”.
Top 3 Issues and His Plans
1.) Unemployment— Ward C is the largest ward in Amuwo Odofin LGA and unarguably with the highest number of youths. However, most of our youths, graduate and non graduates alike have either lost their jobs or don’t have the opportunity of secure a job. I aim at proposing by-laws that will actively engage the youths with the strong support of the executive chairman.
2.) Electricity — Though not within the powers of the local government, I intend keying into the renewable energy drive of the incoming chairman Prince Lanre Sanusi who is keen on creating lasting solution to our electricity issue through alternate source of energy. New bylaws and oversight functions would be set and I am strategically positioning myself for that for the benefit of my people.
3.) Security — I have always collaborated with the Security architecture in Amuwo Odofin, i will intensify more in order to curb the rate at which our manhole covers, cables, and other properties are stolen. I will also continue to work with the Nigerian Police, Neighbourhood Corps and other agencies to ensure the security of Lives of our residents.
Staying Accountable If elected
As the former supervisor for environment, my office was always a beehive of activities not just to the people of my ward, but to the good people of Amuwo Odofin entirely since my office wasn’t restricted to a particular ward. I live within the community and maintain good relationship with members of the public. I will initiate town hall meetings with my people where my scorecard and performance report would be x-rayed.
His Message to the People
My message to the people of Ward C is one hope, togetherness without which nothing can be achieved, dynamic change which will be delivered based on my track record of experience and knowledge of the challenges we all face.
It’s a New Beginning of Hope for us in Amuwo Odofin LGA and Ward C will never regret having me represent them. Residents shouldn’t look the way of opportunist but choose those who truly have their interest at heart.
