AmuwoGames Kick off 2025 Mini Sports Festival, See Photos

November 1st, 2025, came alive in Amuwo-Odofin as residents, athletes, and dignitaries gathered to witness the colorful opening ceremony of the 5th Amuwo Games Mini Sports Festival.

The much-anticipated event drew an energetic crowd of sports lovers, community leaders, sponsors, media houses, and government representatives all united by one goal: to celebrate talent and togetherness in the heart of Lagos.

The atmosphere was electric as eight teams paraded proudly with their vibrant flags, signaling the start of a month-long competition featuring 16 diverse sporting activities, including football, basketball, athletics, and swimming. From young hiopefuls to seasoned residents, participants showcased the true spirit of community sportsmanship.

This year’s edition, themed “Cancel Scam Culture,” goes beyond competition. It carries a message of integrity, accountability, and positive transformation values the organizers hope will resonate with the youth and inspire a stronger, more disciplined community.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Seun Ayeni, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and initiator of the Amuwo Games, described the event as “a life-changing platform for young athletes” and a tool to channel youthful energy into meaningful pursuits.

“The theme is a bold and timely message,” Ayeni said. “Through sports, we’re promoting values of honesty, accountability, and hard work, not just on the field but in society at large.”

Ayeni also shared that this year’s festival marks a new chapter of growth and inclusion. Athletes will receive rewards and recognition for their performances, while free registration, medical screenings, and technical support were made possible through the event’s strong community partnerships.

Festaconline present at the opening ceremony engaged some participants , who said

Ive been waiting since the last edition to participate in the scrabble competition , My father brought me today . This was 14 year old Ifunanya who was super excited to compete in the scrabble edition.

Speaking to one of the Teams Manager popularly known as Sam , He said My team would definitely clear the medals tables this year, We are all ready to show our skills.

Also Present at the opening ceremony was Alhaja who brough her grand daughter to participate in the chess competition , she said her granddaughter has been talking about this competition since she saw the flyer and shes happy that she brought her.

From the excitement of the torch parade to the unity displayed among teams, the Amuwo Games has once again proven to be more than a sporting event, it’s a celebration of community pride and a symbol of Amuwo-Odofin’s commitment to youth empowerment.

As the games unfold across multiple venues throughout November, one thing is clear: Amuwo-Odofin isn’t just playing sports, it’s building a stronger, more united community, one event at a time
