Chaos Erupts In Iyana-Iba, Two Dead, See Details

On the 28th of September, 2022, a fight broke out at Iyana-Iba in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, between the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) group.

It was gathered that the clash, started in the early hours of the day, due to a tussle over the control and right for the sale of tickets and collection of tolls from commercial buses at Ojo park and environs.

The fracas followed a protest by some RTEAN members demanding the removal of the National President of RTEAN, Musa Muhammed as he was accused of meddling in the affairs and management of the state’s union for selfish interest.

At least, three members of a rival group belonging to the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, were feared dead while others were injured during the clash yesterday.

Videos from the scene show young men holding stones and cutlasses as they approach their rivals. Uniformed policemen at the scene appeared to be outnumbered so they stayed away from the fighting group. It was later claimed that calm has been restored to the area.

In the light of yesterday’s clash, policemen were seen in Festac town, around 2nd avenue in the morning hours of 29th September 2022 gathering in numbers and armed, diverting traffic for incoming bikes and kekes’.
