The Joint Tax Board (JTB), the apex tax coordination agency in Nigeria, has officially put up a new price structure for driver’s licenses and number plates.

Sometime in May, they said the adjustment was necessary because of the enhanced security features added to the number plates and licenses, as well as the increase in the cost of production. Starting from June 8, the new price structure became effective.
Below are the details of the adjustment:
Driver’s License Fees
– Motor Vehicle Driver’s License:
– 3-year license: N15,000
– 5-year license: N21,000
Tricycle Driver’s Licence
– 3-year license: N7,000
– 5-year license: N11,000
Number Plate Fees
– Standard Number Plates:
– Private and commercial vehicles: N30,000
– Government vehicles: N80,000
– Fancy Number Plates:
– Private vehicles: N400,000
– Government vehicles: N120,000
Other Number Plates
– Articulated vehicle: N90,000
– Dealer vehicle: N100,000
– Out of season: N150,000
– Motorcycle: N12,000
– Fancy motorcycle: N50,000
– Government standard motorcycle: N20,000
– Government fancy motorcycle: N50,000
The JTB has directed relevant government agencies and motor vehicle licensing authorities to implement the new rates. This price adjustment is not unprecedented, as similar changes were made in 2021 to reflect rising production costs and improved security features.
