The Durbar area of Amuwo-Odofin has received long-awaited attention as the Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Prince Lanre Sanusi, officially flagged off the reconstruction of the Durbar Junction at Mile 2, marking a new phase of infrastructural renewal and community transformation.
The groundbreaking ceremony, tagged “Construction of Gate and Gatehouse, Perimeter Fencing, Median Beautification, and Road Repairs,” signals a renewed commitment by the Sanusi-led administration to give the Durbar axis a much-needed facelift and ensure free flow of traffic within the locality.
Speaking at the event, Sanusi reaffirmed his administration’s determination to fix inner roads across the LGA and improve urban mobility.
“This project is about creating a better planned, safer, and more beautiful environment for our people,” he said.
“Durbar Junction holds economic and social importance for Amuwo-Odofin residents, and this facelift will enhance security, accessibility, and aesthetics.”
A Commitment to Better Roads and Safer Communities
During the event, Sanusi laid the first brick, symbolically flagging off the construction work, accompanied by Vice Chairman Maureen Ashara, councillors, and community stakeholders who came out in support of the initiative.
According to the site engineer, the project is expected to be completed within 12 weeks, after which the Durbar Junction will boast improved road surfaces, perimeter fencing, and a modern gate structure designed to enhance security and order in the area.
Sanusi assured residents that his administration remains committed to addressing road challenges across Amuwo-Odofin.
“In the same order, our inner roads will receive more attention. We’ve started fixing some already, but the rainy season has slowed the pace,” he noted.
“Before December, we’re ensuring that all our inner roads become motorable. That’s our commitment.”
“I want to serve; I am blessed and poised to give back to the community,” he said.
“The 2025 budget is ready, and we’re already planning for 2026. In Mile 2 and across Amuwo-Odofin, we will keep up the good work.”
He also emphasized that his administration’s legacy will be defined by visible results, not political rhetoric.
“When it’s time for politicking, we shall do politics with our delivery — not by beer-parlour politics, but through the dividends of democracy that our people can truly enjoy,” Sanusi added.
Residents and stakeholders present at the event expressed optimism that the Durbar Junction reconstruction would bring lasting relief to motorists, traders, and pedestrians who use the busy corridor daily.
The project represents a major step toward realizing Amuwo-Odofin’s vision of sustainable urban renewal, balancing security, aesthetics, and community well-being.
