Electricity: Amuwo-Odofin Residents Lament Over Total Blackout

The alarming shortage of power supply in the Amuwo-Odofin axis of Lagos state is worrisome as blackout hits hard on residents.

For more than 72 hours, Residents of most, if not all communities in the Amuwo-odofin local government area have been in complete blackout and without power supply.

Residents of the Amuwo-Odofin LGA in Lagos state havelamented bitterly aganst the poor and no supply of in the area.

For some areas such as Festac Town, residents have complained bitterly that they havent gotten electricity supply in over a week and some even more.

Residents of different communities in Amuwo-Odofin have taken to social media to vent their anger over the recent shortage of electricity supply to their homes and businesses.

Some areas such as 7th avenue and 5th avenue in Festac town have not received power supply for over 7 days and counting.

Residents in part of 512 road have complained bitterly about some closes in the axis not receiving supply while others are.

Also For over 5 days, transformer at ijegun more axis of Navy town blew and nothing has been done to fix this. Residents in that axis have been in total blackout and according to a resident , their bill has tripled within the last month.

The Eko electric distribution company, EKEDC announced via their social channels of a major fault on the main source of supply to Festac Town and Some parts of Agboju from the transmission company of Nigeria, TCN.

According to other information, the general blackout in Festac town is as a result of outage from the transmission company station which supplies Festac Town of which efforts are being put in place to get it fixed and resolved.

Mr Jude a resident said that

Even with this Blackout, Eko electric is still sharing outrageous and crazy Bill’s that we didn’t even consume and they expect us to pay , they even threatened to cut our light. I’m highly displeased.

Mrs Blessing, a business owner laments seriously over the inability to get power supply saying that she runs Generator everyday with minimum of 3000 Naira just to keep up with her customers and PHCN officials still gove me high bills of 15000 monthly to pay . So I’m spending almost 75000 on power. It’s sad.

According to Ikeja electric distribution company , there is a fault on MIKE DIM500KVA which has affected customer linked in that area. They also informed some residents that the supply cable for our axis has a fault issue at the Amukoko transmission company.

Mr Nwagode said

I think it’s high time we tell the power holders to please calculate the hours of power supply before sending us bills.

Mr Joe lamented

For the past 5years up on till this lock down period when the light became abit better I have never slept with PHCN light at night more than 5 times in 5 years. I buy fuel like I run a business or something – Joe

Festaconline Media carried out a survey on places without supply.

In a tweet we shared a collated survey response of some axis without power .

We are calling on the concerned authorities and Discos including Ikeja Electric and Eko Electric to swiftly move to fix the darkness and blackout in our community.
