The anti-robbery squad of the Area E Command headquarters , Festac Town during the weekend recovered 42 Live cartridges and 9 pump actions from suspected robbers. A Motorcyclist was apprehended during a routine anti-crime patrol along the 7th avenue road , Festac Town Lagos.
This is just less than two weeks after the Raid of Okada riders / motorcyclists around that area. The raid which was done in compliance with restriction on motorcycles /okada by Lagos State Government.
According to Thisday,
“Our policemen were on a routine anti-crime patrol along 7th Avenue, Festac Town, sighted one unregistered motor cycle with two passengers, carrying a suspicious bag.
“When challenged by the policemen, the men suddenly abandoned their motorbike and their bag, and took to their heels. When searched, 9 Pump action guns and 42 live cartridges were found.”
A resident who pleaded anonymity to Punch revealed
It was around 11.15pm when the policemen came to our side on the 7th Avenue and saw the two men on an unregistered motorcycle. They told the rider to stop and we all thought the police, as usual, wanted to extort money from the two men. But as the policemen moved near them, the men jumped down from the okada and fled into the night. When the policemen searched a bag they left behind, they found some guns; about seven I think.
DSP Joe Offor , The state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that the arms and ammunition were recovered.
The Punch gathered from a police source;
“The policemen sighted the men on the 7th Avenue. They were on an unregistered motorcycle and carried a large bag. When challenged by the policemen, the men suddenly abandoned their ride and their bag, and took to their heels. “The policemen later searched the bag and found nine pump-action guns and 42 live cartridges.
The commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has ordered a detailed investigation into the case Also, patrol has been intensified in the area. The suspect has been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation.
