Finally! Newly Rebuilt Festac First Gate Opened

After over 18 Months, The Festac First Gate has now been reconstructed and reopened. The commissioning of the Estate’s First gate held on Friday September 5th 2025. In attendance was Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, the Executive Chairman of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Prince Lanre Sanusi.

Also present were stakeholders, security agencies, traditional rulers and representative’s of the Festac Town Residents Association. Recall that Festac has the three major entrances into the Federal Housing Estate which comprises the first, second ( Agboju) and third ( Alakija) gates.

The Managing Director, Federal Housing Authority, FHA, Hon Oyetunde Ojo, during the occasion, stated that the commissioning of the roads and the gate is to mark the take off of the promise of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu on mass reconstruction of public infrastructures.

According to him, ” When we were appointed by the President, we were given a specific mandate to perform, and the restoration of Festac Town was a priority to us.”

The FHA Boss says Festac Town is very dear to FHA, not only as a national monument, but as a place where the Authority was birthed. He said the first step the management had taken was to ensure the security and the restoration of the dignity of the estate.

Hence, the management embarked on the rehabilitation of the first gate and Avenue, stating that the second and third gates will be the next focus to fortify the security system of the estate.

Hon Ojo appealed to the Residents Association for total support and cooperation in the maintenance of the estate and security of the provided infrastructure.

Earlier, the President of the Festac Town Residents Association (FTRA), Barrister MK Adegbenro, applauded the leadership of Hon Oyetunde Ojo, describing it as working the talk.

He stated that the Managing Director has kept to his words of securing the lives and properties of residents of Festac Town on assumption of duty.

He appealed to residents to reciprocate the good gestures by cooperating with the management of FHA in the running of the estate, while promising the management of adequate cooperation from the Residents Association.

In his remarks, the Divisional Police officer and Area Commander of Festac Town, represented by Divisional Crime Officer, Superintendent of Police, Ali, stated that residents of Festac Town can now sleep with their two eyes closed.

The Member representing Amuwo Odofin in the Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon Mrs Olufunke Osafile, urged the residents to take charge and value the estate as their home.

Earlier, the Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Prince Lanre Shittu, in his remarks, applauded the FHA management for its exemplary leadership, while appreciating the synergy between the local government and FHA.

He said the local government, on its own, has begun the demolition of shanties within the estate, pointing out that with the collaboration of FHA, Festac would be better off in the near future.

Other dignitaries that graced the occasion included Chief Oscar Odogwu, Chairman of the Balogun Business Association( Trade Fair), Hon Maureen Ashara, Vice Chairman of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, Baale Sooba, and other dignitaries.
