Residents in Amuwo-Odofin and nearby areas woke up to yet another fuel price hike, as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited quietly increased the pump price of petrol at its retail outlets across Lagos and Abuja.
At NNPC stations in Lagos, including the mega station in Abule Ado and outlets along Ago Palace Way in Okota both spots used by many motorists in our axis petrol is now selling for ₦915 per litre, up from ₦865. That’s a ₦50 jump overnight on Monday August 4th 2025.
However on 7th August 2025, there was a slash again from ₦915 to ₦875 per litre, a 55 Naira reduction barely 48 hours after its previous increase sparked concerns across the country.
In Abuja, the price has moved from ₦890 to ₦955 per litre on Monday and moved back again to 900 within 48 hours.This increase comes despite last month’s ex-depot price slash by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which dropped its petrol price from ₦840 to ₦820 per litre, a move many hoped would ease costs for motorists.
In June, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) had already ranked Lagos among the states with the highest average retail prices for petrol, alongside Jigawa and Ondo. With this latest adjustment, residents and transport operators in our area may face even steeper daily expenses.
