Godswill Akpabio Elected 10th Senate President of Nigeria

On Tuesday, 13th June 2023, The election for the senate presidential slot was held and a winner emerged.

The former Akwa Ibom Governor and a lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North West, Godswill Akpabio won the election and has been elected the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.

After going toe to toe with the former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator-elect Abdulazeez Yari, he gained 63 votes leaving his rival with 46.

Emerging victorious, securing the majority of votes and cementing his position as the President of the 10th Senate, he was officially sworn in at precisely 09:44 am.

As Akpabio assumes his new role, he will be expected to lead the Senate with integrity, fairness, and a commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian people.

The Former Minister served as minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022
