-Tankers taken over satellite town roads and the axis
Residents of the Alakija – Abule-ado axis of Amuwo Odofin feel forgotten as they face daily challenges for most commuters and passers-by.
Of recent times commuting via that axis has become a thorn on the flesh of the residents. starting from Alakija 3rd Gate Festac town down to Iyana-iba is a serious situation.
Though the area is being worked on but it is taking too long, speaking to some shop owners in the axis they lamented bitterly of how the construction company have stopped further work and its serious effect on the roads.
The worst is when rain falls, the route is not motor-able or you get to be stuck in hours of traffic just because of the several large gulleys on the road.
Not just that , buses become scarce as they are stuck in traffic to return, fares increase, some other get stranded and even robbed as they have to trek till after Trade fair before they can manage to get a bus.
Motor bikes fondly called Okada, become the only mode of transportation and they charge so high, as high as 2000 Naira.
To make it worst, tankers have also taken over the roads as well making it difficult for vehicles to pass with ease.
Satellite town is not left out as they have been taken over by fuel tankers and containers. It’s been like this in recent times as there are no single motor able road in the axis.
The tankers and containers are not just a major concern but also the terrible state of the roads.
Festaconline spoke to some regular commuters on that axis.
I wake up as early as 5am so that i can get beat the traffic still i get late to work. My work is threatened just because i live at this axis. – Funke, Banker
Trekking is now my new found hobby. most times i have to trek from as far as Lasu gate to Alakija . its stressful and time consuming. – Mr John, Carpenter
