The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) shut down an illegal factory producing counterfeit cosmetic products at the Trade Fair complex in Lagos.
The factory, located at Benue Plaza in the Trade Fair Complex, was targeted as part of an ongoing crackdown on the production and distribution of substandard and counterfeit products in the country.
It was shut down after the NAFDAC operatives raided the location and discovered various unregistered chemicals and packaging materials, alongside other expired products that were put up for sale, which posed serious health risks to consumers.
The total haul of the large quantity of counterfeit cosmetics found in the plaza was given a market value of approximately N50m.
It was eventually disclosed that over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetic products were seized during the raid.
In addition, items such as mini-mixing containers, unlabeled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners were confiscated and transported to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
The agency further urged members of the public to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic products and to report any suspicious activities related to counterfeit goods to the nearest NAFDAC office.
