The race for Lagos 2019 is becoming tougher and interesting as Jimi Agbaje declared his intention to run for office in 2019.
The 2015 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate is now on the list of those who would like to join the 2019 election guber race in Lagos state.
According to a report by NAN, Agbaje was quoted as saying he initially didn’t want to contest the elections, but his supporters convinced him to change his mind.
“It is true that initially I did not want to re-contest, but I had so many people urging me to run. I bought and submitted my nomination form shortly before it closed. I will be part of the PDP Lagos governorship primaries, billed for Friday, September 28,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jimi Agbaje who contested the 2015 elections keenly with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode expressed confidence in winning the election if he emerges the PDP candidate.
He told NAN that he believes the PDP leadership in the state would create a level playing ground for all the aspirants.
“Our primaries have always been open, fair and free for all,” he said. “This is what we are known for, and that is the way I expect it to be,” he said.
During the 2015 elections, Agbaje who ran under the umbrella of the PDP polled 659,738 votes, while Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded 812,394 votes.
