It was a day of sorrow and reflection in Festac, Amuwo-Odofin, as colleagues and coursemates of the late CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, Divisional Police Officer of Festac Division, gathered to honor her memory. The officer passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, following an unsuccessful surgery, leaving family, friends, and fellow officers in shock.
Members of the Nigeria Police Force Course 1, 2010, who enlisted alongside CSP Ngbaronye on April 10, 2010, described her as lively, courageous, and deeply committed to service. Clad in black T-shirts with her image and the inscription “REST ON HERO,” the coursemates carried out a candlelight procession from the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters to the Police College, Ikeja where they trained together.
Throughout the solemn walk, colleagues emphasized that her legacy would endure. CSP Matilda Ngbaronye served with distinction in several key positions: Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Lagos State, DPO of Ilupeju and Iponri divisions, forensic officer at State CID, Panti, and secretary to former Lagos CP AIG Hakeem Odumosu (retd). Her professional dedication earned her awards and recognition, while her approachable nature strengthened the bond between the Police and the communities she served.
Speaking for the coursemates, CSP Umma Tunni Ayuba, Zonal PPRO at Zone 2 Command Onikan, reflected on the human side of policing:
“Matilda died untimely, at the peak of her career. She was a lively person who could get things done. She spoke multiple languages and lived a life of purpose. She was not just a colleague, but a sister and helper to all of us.”
Other colleagues shared personal memories of CSP Ngbaronye. CSP Ayo Elijah, DPO of Mancenter, described her as a cheerful and helpful soul whose contributions left lasting footprints. CSP Uche Obiora spoke of her ambition to become the first female IGP and the shock of losing a close friend. CSP Aliyu, DPO of Oko-Oba division, reflected on the brevity of life and her dedication to duty, while CSP Lateef Adisa recounted his last conversation with her, highlighting her humanity. CSP Emeka Jude Umeozor emphasized her mentorship and guidance, which shaped his career path.
CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye’s life, though cut short, was marked by service, professionalism, and inspiration. Her coursemates and colleagues say her memory will continue to resonate, serving as a reminder of dedication and excellence in the Nigeria Police Force.
