Wednesday April 24th 2019 saw to a major gathering of nurses in Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Lagos State as the nurses scientific Conference tagged Politics and politicking in nursing practice, the way forward.
The conference which held at the MCC, Mother and Child hospital by First gate, Festac Town saw to gathering of nurses, stakeholders and even the local government executives.
Gracing the conference was the executive chairman of Amuwo-Odofin, Valentine Buraimoh, the permanent secretary of the Health Commission represented by Dr. John Alalade, Dr. Mrs. Tokunbo Oluwole, Dr. Ayodapo Soyinka, MD/CEO Amuwo-Odofin Maternal & Child Center and other distinguished person in the medical profession.
There were other side activities such as cultural dance display by the hospital’s nursing group p whose performance ushered all dignitaries to the dance floor.
The keynote speaker, Comrade J.O. Awojide, Lagos State NANNM Chairman explained that most of the recognition the Nursing community has enjoyed were products of politicking, enjoining all nurses to engage in politicking in all strata of the society.
The Executive Chairman addressed and charged the nurses to engage engage in policy advocacy on behalf of patients.
In his words, “Many of our legislators do not have ample knowledge on health related issues, thus, they need you to educate them on what is appropriate for the industry.”
On the way forward he asked nurses to engage their policy makers by getting their contact, presenting workable documents to them via emails, or constituency offices.
