Residents in Amuwo-Odofin would have to brace up in coming days and weeks as a Ban has been placed on Okada Operations in Amuwo-Odofin LGA , Lagos State.
The Okada ban took effect as result of the continuous stakeholders meeting which involved various stakeholders in the LGA such as FTRA, Mile 2 Residents Association, Christian Association of Nigeria, Festac Town Muslim Community, Artisans, Market Associations, Professionals of different fields and the Okada Union.
The meeting was held in anticipation of putting an end to the nauseating problems of created the sector in the transportation system.
Gracing the meeting were bittered residents who expressed their concerns over the activities of the operators.
Pathetic stories of how innocent residents were taking advantage of to disposes them of their valuables, damage their vehicles and even cause permanent physical disabilities in the hands of operators were lamented
According to Valentine Buraimoh , the most ideal and pragmatic step to ensuring that the operators understand the body language and position of the community to put an end to the several dastard acts committed by the operators is to suspend the activities of Okada transportation within the Local Government.
The Okada Ban in Amuwo-Odofin would take effect from 8am, Monday 27th of May 2019 until a workable system as guided by the summation is implemented.
The officer representing the police force, gave account of how much they had tried to curb the excesses of these operators, citing that many weren’t Nigerians, and had migrated from neighbouring countries such as Niger republic and Chad.
The chairman of the association of operators, appealed to the gathering to exercise some patience and that they are also doing everything within their capacity to contain the menace
The Environmental Task Force, Chairman, Otunba Adetifa swore that he is resolved to ensure that it wouldn’t be business as usual again and he is committed to working towards the restoration of the glory of Amuwo-Odofin.
Also said were steps that would be taken to put an end to the civil disturbances of the Okada operators were Biometrics of operators, Enforcing rules and regulation guiding their operations within the Local Government and Training and sensitization on operations within Amuwo-Odofin.
The Security agents Police, Civil Defence and Soldiers present at the stakeholders meeting were told to start arresting okada riders in Festac from Monday next week.
