A residential building in Ago Palace Way, Okota was sealed after a discovery that raw sewage was being discharged from a septic tank directly into the public drainage system.
The act was deemed both a violation of environmental laws and a significant public health hazard.
The case gained attention after a concerned resident recorded a video and shared it on social media, capturing sewage being channeled from the residential compound into the gutter adjacent through a hose.
The resident tagged Commissioner Wahab in the post, prompting swift governmental intervention.
The enforcement operation was carried out on Saturday by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
The commissioner stressed the government’s commitment to identifying and sanctioning individuals who breach environmental safety standards, as part of broader efforts to maintain a clean and safe living environment across the state.
He stated that the government would not condone such conduct due to the health risks associated with the contamination of water sources and the potential to trigger disease outbreaks.
