News Reaching Festaconline media that some shop owners of the previously built Oyinlola market before it was demolished have staged a protest.
According to the source, some shop owners who lost their shops due to the demolition exercise of the market in December 2020 have been protesting against the reopening and recommissioning of the market.
According to one of the shop owners,
The shop owners of the oyinlola’s market were never settled and the government wants to commission the market. The case is still in court but it looks like they refused to listen to the court order to leave the land till the court decides.
Festaconline reached out to Chief press secretary Who stated that there was no standing court order on the land though there was a court case.
Also speaking to one of the council reps, he said that those who had shops there before have been told to submit their documents to the revenue and market department of the local government at the 41 Road secretariat.
He also said that there has been concession planned to be given to those who had shops at the 23 Road market before the demolition.
Recall that in december 2022 The 23 Road Market Festac was demolished to make a way for the construction of a new and modern market.
On 8th of December 2020,a suit with Suit Number ID/9827/LMW/2020 was filed primarily to challenge the defendants from displacing them from their market, built by private means as well as to restrain Amuwo Odofin Local Government, the Federal Housing Authority (the actual landlords of the land on which the Market is sitting) and Lagos State Government in the suit from demolishing the Market among other reliefs.
