In the early hours of Wednesday, April 22, 2025, residents of 401 Road, Festac Town in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos, were awakened by a harrowing incident involving two suspected robbers.
According to eyewitness accounts and information gathered by FestacOnline, two men allegedly invaded the 401 Road axis at about 1:30 AM, attempting to steal brain boxes from parked vehicles.
While in the act, the suspects were reportedly spotted, prompting an alarm that led to one of them being caught, while the other managed to escape with the stolen items. The one who was caught, identified as Obe, a man believed to be in his 30s, was said to be the one removing the brain boxes while his partner served as the collector.
Residents, in a show of anger and defense, lynched the suspect on the spot after he refused to disclose the whereabouts of his fleeing partner.
By morning, the lifeless body of the alleged thief was found along the roadside in the area, bearing signs of severe beating. FestacOnline arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported and confirmed the state of the area.
Later in the day, officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment came to evacuate the body.
The incident has left residents shaken, with many expressing growing concerns over the rise in petty crimes and nighttime robberies in the community. This event highlights the urgent need for improved security measures and a stronger police presence in the area
“This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. But it’s scary to see it end this way,” a resident told FestacOnline.
