Residents of Festac town axis of Amuwo-Odofin on Monday September 8th 2025 woke up to an exciting development as the long-awaited re-opening of the Festac First Gate was here .

However, the excitement turned to some frustration for many as the commuters plying that route experienced an unplanned closure.
According to information gathered, the newly refurbished gate was scheduled for its official opening today, 8th September, but there were unexpected movement restrictions.

While the gate is expected to ease traffic flow and enhance security once fully operational, the morning disruption sparked mixed reactions. Some residents expressed their excitement about the development, while others voiced concern over the inconvenience caused by the sudden closure.
By 9 a.m., preparations were already underway for the commissioning of the much-anticipated new gate. Officials and workers were seen setting up for the event, but in the process, residents reported being temporarily locked out, unable to move freely in or out of the gate.
This sudden closure left motorists and pedestrians stranded for a while. Some commuters heading to work and traders hoping to catch the early market rush expressed displeasure at being held up without prior notice.
“We are happy the gate is finally opening, but they should have considered people who need to pass through in the morning. At least, they could have waited until after rush hour,” one commuter said.

Many passersby who had hoped for a smooth morning commute were left stranded for a while, as security measures were tightened to ensure the area was ready for the official unveiling.
Community members, however, are hopeful that once officially commissioned, the new 1st Gate will bring lasting relief to daily movement around Festac Town, improving access for both motorists and pedestrians.
