Photos: Sanwo Olu Launches New Roads in Amuwo Odofin

Over the years, serious complaints and lamentations had been the order of the day on road networks in Amuwo Odofin, especially the Oriade LCDA community. 

However, that seemed to have been changing as four upgraded road projects were officially opened in the community on Tuesday, 28th January 2025

The event, which marked the official commissioning of the new roads, was attended by dignitaries from within the Amuwo-Odofin LGA,  Oriade LCDA, Lagos State Council.  Also, in attendance were community stakeholders and traditional rulers.

The ceremony took place at Old ojo road opposite Satellite Junior and Senior secondary

The road project which is a two phased project, which spans 7.65KM from Irede to MazaMaza has seen to the completion of the 1st phase  which covers From Irede road to Oluti Busstop while the second phase visit projected to be completed in the next quarter



The roads launched are the newly revamped Irede Road, a 2.20km stretch connecting Lagos-Badagry Expressway to the Irede Jetty, Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa) road, a 3.20km road providing access to several tank farms and Ijegun Egba Jetty, Navy Town road, a 700m road linking Old Ojo Road, Central Bank Training School, and several Nigerian Navy Installations, and Old Ojo Road (Phase 1), a 7.65km alternative route to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Gracing this event was the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu,  his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat (seventh right); SSG, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin,  Chairman, Oriade LCDA, Hon. Ramotalai Akinlola-Hassan,  Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola; State APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government area,  Osafile Funke, House of Assembly member representative for Amuwo-Odofin 1. 

Improvements to the Irede Road include expansion and dualization, benefiting commuters heading towards the Lagos-Badagry Expressway at Trade Fair Bus Stop. This road is also a crucial connection point to Irede Jetty, linking various riverine communities in the area.

These roads will not only improve transportation in the area but also provide a link to the Lagos Blue Line Rail and the water component of the multi-modal transportation initiative, with many jetties along the axis.
