Young people across Amuwo-Odofin are stepping into the fast-growing clean-energy sector, following a five-day intensive training on solar power installation and maintenance facilitated by the Member of the House of Representatives for Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Hon. George Olawande Adegeye.
The training, held in Satellite Town, brought together over 100 youths from different parts of the constituency. It was supported by the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and delivered in partnership with Zarcus Construction Nigeria Limited.
According to organisers, the programme was designed to be hands-on, giving participants real technical exposure to solar power system installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and energy-efficiency best practices. With the rising cost of electricity and the growing demand for alternative power solutions in Lagos communities, many attendees said the training could not have come at a better time.
For several participants, the programme offered a rare opportunity to acquire practical skills that can open doors to paid jobs or help them start their own solar installation businesses. Many described it as “timely,” especially as households and small businesses in Satellite Town, Festac, Mile 2, and surrounding areas increasingly turn to solar energy as a more reliable option.
Hon. Adegeye, who was represented by members of his team, said the initiative reflects his long-standing commitment to human capital development in Amuwo-Odofin. He noted that equipping young people with modern, income-friendly skills is one of the most sustainable ways to strengthen the local economy and reduce youth unemployment.
He added that the programme also aligns with the Federal Government’s push for cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions, expressing appreciation to NCDMB for partnering to bring the training to the grassroots.
Residents who spoke with FESTAC ONLINE expressed hope that more youth-focused technical programmes will be rolled out across the constituency, noting that skills in the renewable energy sector are becoming increasingly valuable.
The training is expected to wrap up on Thursday, with participants receiving toolkits and certificates that will help them begin their journey in the clean-energy space
The training, supported by the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and delivered in partnership with Zarcus Construction Nigeria Limited, kicked off on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Dessy Hall 6, Holy Child Way, opposite Darman College in Satellite Town. It is scheduled to run until Thursday, October 31, 2025.

Hon. He also reaffirmed his promise to continually support programmes that uplift young people in Amuwo Odofin while contributing to national progress. Residents have praised the initiative as a smart investment in the future, especially at a time when renewable energy is becoming a key solution to Nigeria’s power challenges.
