Amuwo-Odofin has of recent seen a mass invasion of persons who some call scavenger’s. Over the past months there have been numerous reports of thefts ranging from manholes, to scrap metals and iron related items.
Over the weekend, it was discovered that some set of individuals have put the Festac Link bridge safety on the line. The Festac-Link bridge serves as a major commuting route for thousands of persons daily and according to information gathered, some scavengers have been breaking part of the rails of the bridge and removing the iron that binds this bridge thereby exposing and reducing the integrity of the bridge.
Residents are calling for serious intervention of the local government and state government to this new development.
Mr Anslem Okafor, a businessman who resides in Festac lamented of this disastrous act. he said
Festac is now home to lots of homeless persons who turn to something else at night , stealing and raiding. I’m scared to death.
Mrs Fisayo, A mum of two also shared a concern, she said I was driving past the bridge and i noticed holes and saw that part of the bridge is being destroyed gradually,. I hope the bridge do not cave in when I’m driving.
Fregene Goodluck , a banker who resides in Amuwo-Odofin also shared his worry, he said a lot of these scavenger’s are seen around the area homeless and waiting to unleash their terrors’ of stealing and causing serious destruction to properties and lives on the long run. He lamented on the porous state of the estate as there are no security measures in place to ensure this situation is nipped in the bud.
This situation calls for urgent help and attention of authorities especially the security operatives to bring the book culprit that is risking lives of thousands of residents in the estate.
