Street soccer king football tournament has made a come back for its 3rd edition in Amuwo-Odofin In a bold move to engage young people and curb the rising menace of drug and substance abuse.
This edition of the Street Soccer King has flagged off a grassroots football competition themed “Building Resilience, Creating a Brighter Future.” The tournament, tagged United Against Substance Abuse (UASA), kicked off on September 4, 2025, and will run until September 28, 2025, at 512 Road Stone Field, Festac Town, Lagos.
The competition targets youths between the ages of 15 and 23, using the power of football to raise awareness on the dangers of substance abuse while also fostering teamwork, resilience, and community spirit.
Speaking at the launch, organizers emphasized that the initiative is designed to provide a safe haven for young people, channeling their energy into sports and positive development rather than harmful vices.
“Football is not just a gameit is a tool for social change. Through this tournament, we are giving young people an alternative to drugs, while also nurturing future talents who can make Lagos and Nigeria proud,” the convener said.
The event features several community teams competing over the three-week period, with matches scheduled daily from 3:00 PM. Music will be provided by DJ Simon, creating a lively and safe atmosphere for participants and spectators.
Residents of Festac and neighboring communities are encouraged to attend and support the players as they champion the cause of a drug-free future.
