The incident has sparked concern among residents of nearby areas including Igbologun, Satellite Town waterfronts, and adjoining riverine routes, where marine transport remains a daily means of movement for many locals.
Officials from the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) confirmed that the boat departed from Ilashe Beach House before encountering trouble close to the Nigerdock axis, within Amuwo waters.
Residents in the area described the channel as busy, especially during peak movement hours, and called for increased safety patrols, clearer waterway markings, and stricter enforcement of navigation rules to prevent future occurrences.
