Tragedy Struck in the early Hours of Friday, October 1st 2021 when a transformer serving the 721 Road axis of Festac Town, Amuwo-Odofin LGA Blew.
Later it was discovered that a man, un-identified was seen electrocuted at the transformer area.
Information gathered from residents and passersby was that the man electrocuted has been known to residents to be stealing regularly.
Luck ran out on him this time while he was trying to steal and vandalize cables from the transformer just at the boundary , 721 Road Block D / 23Road M Close, Festac .
He was trying to loose some cables attached to the transformer and cut some aluminum parts when his action triggered an explosion which got him electrocuted and killed instantly.
According to a resident, He identified him as one of the truck pushers, he got to the transformer very early in the morning and had already stolen some cables as some were found on him , Unfortunately Light was restored while in the act of stealing.
Another passerby lamented that these are the people spoiling their transformers, they steal the doors, and even the covers to sell.
The authorities were informed, his body has since been taken away by the Civil defense and police.
We call on necessary authorities to checkmate activities of these pilfers and also calling on the Eko Electricity company to protect our transformers to avoid more deaths especially children who might be playing around.
