Tragedy Strikes In Amuwo As 10 Feared Dead

No fewer than 10 people have been confirmed dead. Three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an auto crash. This accident occurred along the Lagos-Badagry expressway in Lagos State.

The tragedy struck when a fully loaded Toyota Sienna with a vehicle with a number plate BDG 342 FS rammed into a stationary truck laden with granite stones along the road while trying to navigate the road. The incident occurred on the 3rd of October 2024 at around 11pm when the ill-fated Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) suddenly experienced brake failure and rammed into the truck.

According to information gathered by Festaconline media, the passengers were en route Lagos state from the east heading to the park to disperse to their various destinations. Amongst the victims were 13 persons, while 10 people lost their lives to the unfortunate incident, three were critically injured.

Breakdown of the deceased includes three male adults, four females, two female children and one male child died around Abule-Osun end of the Lagos-Badagry expressway in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the casualties figure, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed  this in a statement on Wednesday.

“Further investigations revealed that the truck was laden with granite. It was parked on the road, shutting down about half of the carriage way. The Toyota Sienna was on top speed. It unknowingly crashed into the parked truck from behind.

The injured passengers were reportedly rescued and taken to a nearby hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). This happened before the arrival of the Agency’s LRT at the scene of the incident. The injured included one female adult and two children.

“The recovered bodies have been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for onward transfer to the mortuary pending when their families be located”, he added.
