11 Things That Shook Amuwo in 2021

2021 was a year that we would not easily forget, it had its good and bad moments, well Festaconline has put together eleven major events, occurrences, happenings in the community that shook the entire Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Lagos State.

1. 1st Avenue Road Rehabilitation

For residents and most especially commuters, plying a road that is bad speaks volumes on quality of the community.

The 1st avenue/1st gate/2nd avenue especially the intersection between the three areas have been a major source of lamentation with terrible potholes and adding to unnecessary expense of car owners.

After a long appeal and wait and cries, the road was rehabilitated and it brought about smiles to the community

2. Tanker Fell At Apple Junction

If you can recall, we reported the tanker situation that fell at a very busy roundabout, apple junction along the Festac-Access Road. The incident was a smooth escape for many as well as the Cars.

3. 23 Road Market Facelift

The demolition of the old standing 23 Road Market was a huge blow to shop owners, their tenants, customers and the general society at large.

Going 365 days after, we are all wowed with the great structures put in place. we all cant wait for the market to be completed and opened to the community.

4. Sound Sultan’s Demise

It was a huge blow to the Nigerian entertainment industry, the Amuwo community especially as the legendary singer, basketballer and entertainment lover, Sound Sultan was lost to the cold hands of death.

It was huge shock to everyone and a major loss to our community. May his soul rest in peace.

5. Valentine Buraimoh 2nd Term

The local government elections which held last year saw to a stiff and strong competition between the APC and PDP Candidates in both Chairmanship position and councillorship. APC Party swept the polls according to results released.

The incumbent chairman, Valentine Buriamoh clinched his 2nd term Ticket to govern the Amuwo-Odofin Community for the next term.

6. Okada Vs Police

The war on motorcycle popularly known as Okada has been ongoing for many years with the police constantly seizing the bikes, the clamping on these riders took a sour turn as the Police came into the community to seize the bikes and the riders retaliated by burning buses, causing damage to the 7th Avenue Police station, Festac Town.

This caused serious commotion and pandemonium in the community. The Police force brought a come-back show and also came back to seize and arrest okada riders again. We hope a lasting solution is brought to these menace in 2022.

7. Festac Music Festival

The Annual music Festival is an event to watch out for yearly by residents in the community. The 2021 edition was a huge success and was produced and organized by Dare Fassasi popularly Known as Babadee.

It was also held in honor of the Late legend, Sound sultan.

The event was well-attended and saw to support from the local government.

8. Amuwodecides

Elections for the local council positions held in 2021 and the 3rd edition of the Amuwodecides, Organized by Festaconline media with support from various people in the community, a grassroots debate held as well. The 3rd edition held virtually due to the COVID-19 pnademic and restrictions.

9. Adegeye Passes On

The political class, and political stakeholders in the Amuwo-Odofin community was hit with the demise of a strong APC party chieftain, Hon Adegeye. She passed on after a brief illness according to the information we were able to gather.

10. Demolition By FHA

Towards the tail end of the year, the FHA woke up and realised that there were a lot of illegally built houses in the estate especially at the 7th avenue and Festac Phase 2 axis. Serious demolition occurred of the marked houses.

11. AmuwoGames

The Bi-annual community sports festival, AmuwoGames organized by Bizzybody company. It was a month-long sports competition which saw to a huge number of participants in more than 14 games. Winners emerged as well in the various sports competition.

The goal was achieved as this brought about community cohesiveness among the youths in the LGA.
