On June 11, 2022 in Amuwo Odofin, seasoned volunteer speakers who partnered in the noble cause of youth empowerment covered three critical topics, including writing the winning CV, the recent graduates star attitude, and job interview tips, at a Career Seminar and Job fair titled Employability 101 organized by SOP Initiative, a non-profit organization focused on youth and community development among other objectives.
“We know that what many youths in our community need right now is a source of income, so in order to positively impact our generation, we are hosting a #SOPEmployability 101 Career Seminar and Fair to assist eager fresh graduates in getting a head start”, according to Tunde Adenuga, the head of the SOP Initiative’s General Administration department.
According to Seun Ayeni, the president of the Lagos-based Christian youth group, “according to James 2: 15–16, we will not disregard the obvious solutions to meet the genuine needs of our target audience, who also constitute a sizable portion of our society; GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT.”
The SOP Initiative was able to collaborate with community businesses such as Crystal County Schools, which provided the venue and facility for this event, and Alan & Grant, a recruitment consultancy firm, which managed the event’s job fair and exhibition.
Although attendance at Empolyability 101 was free, registration was required for the more than 20 people who attended.
“It was a beautiful experience,” said Anjorin Dolapo, a 400-level student at the University of Ilorin studying public communication. The facilitators spoke with us, and I learned a lot about everything from CV writing to presenting skills while applying for jobs and during interviews. It was fantastic.
Ms Peju Yusuff of Sterling Bank’s HR Department, Mrs Modupe Akinseye of ProwPeople, and the president of the SOP Initiative himself, Seun Ayeni, were among those who spoke.
