Community security efforts in Amuwo-Odofin received a boost as the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) inaugurated its new Local Government Command Executive Council and unveiled a branded operational patrol vehicle.
The inauguration took place on Thursday, June 25, bringing together officials of the Lagos State Command of the VGN, representatives of security agencies, community leaders and invited guests.
The ceremony was presided over by the Lagos State Commandant of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Commandant Tajudeen Opeyemi, alongside senior officers of the state command and local government commanders.
Among those in attendance were representatives of the Festac Police Division, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Nigeria Legion and Amuwo-Odofin Local Government.
Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and community-based organisations to improve safety across Amuwo-Odofin.
The representative of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Chairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment to working with the newly inaugurated leadership on initiatives aimed at strengthening security within the local government.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of a branded operational patrol vehicle by the newly appointed Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Commander, GS Bashir Rasheed Alao. According to the command, the vehicle will support patrol activities and improve response to security incidents across the community.
Although heavy rainfall accompanied the ceremony, the inauguration proceeded as scheduled with the attendance of officials from various security and paramilitary organisations.
The inauguration comes as residents continue to call for improved security, increased patrols and stronger collaboration among law enforcement agencies and community security groups across Amuwo-Odofin.
