Towards the thrive for a cleaner Lagos, the State Government on Thursday rewarded Local Government areas that distinguished themselves last year in cleanliness.
The sanitation competition was aimed at encouraging communities in participating in cleanliness, and to build synergy between Ministries, departments, public institutions, sector leaders, agencies of the government, private sectors, and youths towards practicing the best hygiene.
Speaking at the Awards presentation ceremony held at Alausa, the First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Mrs. Modupe Akewusola, urged all residents to join the quest to address the problem of poor waste handling, self-inflicted flooding, overgrown vegetation, open defecation and indiscriminate waste dumping.
The previous year, Amuwo-Odofin was listed among those to collect this award, but this year, it seems like we have lost touch with our environmental prowess.
Without a doubt, there is a clear nexus between health and the environment and poor sanitation conditions are contributory factors to diseases and other health-related problems.
The exercise henceforth won’t be just an event but rather a continuous campaign to ensure all communities’ cleanliness and that the environment remains livable, healthy, and clean.
For this year, the three winners of the cleanest Local Governments in Lagos State were Yaba, Epe, and Eredo they were presented with plaques and 3 Nissan Frontier pickup trucks each. They were also recognized for having the cleanest Markets, Primary Healthcare Centres, and MDAs.
