#AmuwoDecides23: Meet the Candidates Episode2: Hon. Sylvester

As the 2023 election draws very near, in order to allow our community and its residents to make informed decisions, Festaconline Media presents a series, 3 Minutes with the candidates where you get to know briefly those who intend to represent us in the forthcoming elections.

Episode 2 features Honorable Onuwurah Sylvester Chukwudi, NNPP Candidate contesting to represent Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 2 in the House of Representatives.

Why Should People Vote For You

I am Honorable Onuwurah Sylvester Chukwudi, I am vying for the Lagos state House of Assembly, under Amuwo Odofin 2 constituency.

Why Should People Vote For You

I want people to vote for me because I want to give them true representation, I found out that in the recent past, most of our, especially state assembly members that are representing us are not known by the people.

If you ask people around, they will tell you they don’t know who is representing them, and that is one factor that people cannot hold them responsible for not representing them well, they are not known.

Two, they are not on the ground, they are usually not on the ground, and most of them, when they finish, they disappear.

Then another issue I found out is that the people need to see what they are actually doing, there is no feedback between the people and the representatives, so I felt those of us like myself in this estate, Comfort Oboh, I’ve served for 12 years as an executive in this estate, so I have been with the people, they know me, they can hold me accountable.

Even in the community, in Kirikiri at large, they know me, they can hold me accountable at any time, they know my house, and they can always be there to ask me questions. So these are the things I felt when I come in I have to fill in.

And secondly, you just came into Comfort Oboh right now, you saw how the road is. Of recent Kirikiri, they are tarring the road even if they just started reconstruction, but who can you hold to say okay these are the people doing these for you, or who can you hold to say okay I want to talk to this person to talk to the government that is representing us, you cannot hold on to anybody, there is nobody to go to.

That is why, even when people are talking against somebody, there is this man Hakeem Bello, I must confess, when he was there, he was around, but he never moved out.

So I felt hence, I am somebody on the ground, they know me, the people see me, they can always hold me accountable, and they can always come to me at any time, so I felt I am capable of doing it. And besides, I am a graduate with a BSc accounting degree from the University of Lagos.

I have done politics before in Unilag, in my second year and I was a member of the student union parliament, so it’s not a new thing when I get in there. I have been a representative, I have been a leader before, and I’ve done things before, so it’s not new to me.

What would you do if voted in?

When I get into office, I basically would draw the government’s attention to this area, Amuwo Odofin constituency 2 which is the Oriade LCDA.

If you go around Lagos today, right now as I am talking to you, we have the worst roads in Lagos state, we are the most neglected area. And we are one of the largest income earners in the state.

We lack roads, we lack water, and that is what you get, no good road, no good water, and people are neglected.

It is high time we have people who can be bold enough to come out, I am bold, I am ready and I’m prepared and I’m going there not only just to be a representative not only to be seen by my people but to represent them and represent them well and make sure that these roads, this water, these issues we are going through in this area, especially Oriade LCDA, all those will be a thing of the past
