#AmuwoDecides23: Meet the Candidates Episode4: Bar. Dorothy Ilegbune

As the 2023 election draws very near, in order to allow our community and its residents to make informed decisions, Festaconline Media presents a series, 3 Minutes with the candidates where you get to know briefly those who intend to represent us in the forthcoming elections.

My name is Honorable Barrister Mrs. Dorothy Ilegbune, I’m vying for Lagos State house of Assembly amuwo-odofin.

Why should you be voted for?

They have a thousand reasons why they should vote for me, like; I am a woman, and I have a soft spot for the development of human resources and human beings. I nurture children in my womb, I nurture them as they come out, I nurture even my husband and his children, and people around me and the entire community and the entire constituency.

I want to change the narrative, you can see things are not going as they should be, not that the youths are lazy but what do you want them to do? The government has abandoned them virtually, they don’t even put them in their thinking. So by the special grace of God, having gone through the thick and thin of things on this earth, I know how to handle situations.

I want to help the youth, for instance, I’m interested, I’m intoxicated with education, and I went to University five different times. gave me the opportunity to read law, to read English, to read French, to read Economics and two master’s in Law and Marketing, and a diploma in Aviation. With that, everybody cannot be me. I had the opportunity which is the grace of God, since God has helped me, I want to help others, and I will not close my eyes to whatever is going on.

I am going to help the youths to the extent that they will be very proud of themselves, and nobody will ever call them lazy again. By the special grace of God, if I win this election, I’m going to sacrifice, King David in the Holy bible said: “God forbid, that I will give what will not pain me”. I sacrifice my one good year salary for everybody in Amuwo Odofin, and I will make sure that such a bill will be set in place.

How can people help you win the election, everybody on that faithful day on the 11th of March 2023 for instance, people would be running helter-skelter for my sake and the sake of others, then at the end I emerge the winner and I will not give them something? God forbid!! What is democracy? Government of the people, by the people, and for the people

One thing missing in Amuwo?

Empowerment! They are not being empowered based on what government releases for them every quarter, their money is not being used properly. it’s very painful as a legal practitioner, I know what to do and how to handle such things.

What would you do when voted in?

I am going to introduce quarterly town hall meetings, before the constituency project fund is released, we would have a discussion on how such, the project, the need.

What is the lack of this ward A, ward B, what are your needs, because what ward A needs is different from what ward B needs and ward C and ward K. It varies, so you should not impose it on them.

Skills, people must have skills, must everybody go to the university, and after university, what else you must come back to skill? So the skill acquisition is very fundamental and it goes to the root of the issue.
