COVID-19: LG , NCDC Clarifies Figures in Amuwo-Odofin

There was a viral spread of a voice note by one Dr Faith, who misinformed and created panic to the general public about COVID-19 pandemic in Amuwo .

The Voice note which was an unauthorized report of the status of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Amuwo-Odofin community spread like wild fire

Reports reached the authorities as The Nigeria centre for disease control NCDC and the local government denied giving such an information of alarming figures of confirmed cases in the LG.

The Chairman of the Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Engr Valentine Buraimoh held a press briefing on Saturday April 25th 2020 at the LGA Secretariat to debunk and clarify the viral message.

He urged the public to disregard the malicious account of the spread of the virus in the LGA as given by one Dr. faith Anyanwu

According to the chairman, Dr. Mrs Faith Anyanwu who is an unknown person to the Amuwo community has also in a voice note regretted her action.

She was engaged as an adhoc personnel by the NCDC to work on active case search in the LG. She is not an authorized member of staff of the local government neither is she an official of the NCDC.

Also Dr Okunromade, Lead Rapid Response Team, Surveillance, NCDC said that Dr Anyanwu was not in any position to divulge such information.

The recorded voice message is completely not I’m tandem with the purpose of the active case search, which is to identify people with symptoms to enable them qualify for screening. – Buraimoh

He advised all residents to stay calm while observing all preventive measures as directed by medical experts.
