A 42-year-old car dealer, Christian Obiagwu, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N780,000 under false pretence to sell a car in Lagos.

Obiagwu is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in November 2018 at about 2 p.m. at First Gate, Festac Town, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with others to obtain the sum of N780,000 from one Onyeawi Ibeabuchi with pretence to sell one fairly used Toyota Corrolla Saloon car with registration number BL 966 BUR to him, a representation he knew to be false,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314(3) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate T. Shekoni-Adeyekun, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must also be a blood relative to the defendant.
