Residents of the 31 road, 32 Road and spanning to 21 Road are giving a sigh of relief as Residents of Festac Town and the wider Amuwo-Odofin axis may finally be getting some relief, as road rehabilitation works have officially commenced on key parts of the community.
The project, which covers the stretch from 3rd Avenue through 21 Road, comes after years of complaints from residents and commuters who have endured deteriorating road conditions, daily traffic stress, and vehicle damage along the route.
At a recent stakeholders’ engagement hosted by the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, community leaders, government representatives, and residents gathered to discuss the long-awaited intervention and what it means for the area.
Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin, Prince Lanre Sanusi, stated that the rehabilitation is part of a broader plan to improve infrastructure, restore public confidence, and enhance the overall living experience within the community.
According to project details, the road upgrade will feature the installation of durable interlocking stones, improved drainage and walkways, as well as solar-powered streetlights aimed at improving safety and long-term sustainability.
Representing the Lagos State Government, Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, assured residents that the project will be executed with a clear timeline, noting that both road corridors are expected to be worked on concurrently within an estimated 18-month period.
While many residents have welcomed the development as long overdue, some also pointed out that several other roads within Festac still require urgent attention.
In response, the local government acknowledged the concerns and indicated that further assessments would be carried out to identify additional areas that may be considered for future rehabilitation.
For now, residents are expected to brace for temporary disruptions as construction progresses, with authorities urging cooperation to ensure smooth execution of the project.
For many in Festac, however, the bigger feeling is simple , after years of frustration, something is finally happening.
