Attendees who were mostly Residents raised questions on roads, healthcare, education, unemployment and support for vulnerable people during an independent community forum held in Amuwo-Odofin on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The event, held at Canary World, was organised by Amuwo Residents for Better Representation (ARBR) and brought residents together with political candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those who attended were Moses Olarewaju, a candidate for the House of Representatives, and Folorunso Ola Western, candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly in Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I.
Rather than a campaign rally, the session centred on questions from residents about issues affecting the constituency.
Infrastructure was one of the major concerns raised during the discussion. Olarewaju was asked about the difference in the level of infrastructure between Amuwo-Odofin and neighbouring constituencies.
He referred to an ongoing road project between Apple Junction and Mazamaza in a neighbouring constituency and said Amuwo-Odofin had not attracted a project of comparable scale.
Residents also raised concerns about youth unemployment, cult-related violence, healthcare facilities and education. The needs of people living with disabilities also featured during the session. Olumide Dabo, who spoke on behalf of the community, raised concerns about the limited support available to people with disabilities.
During the event, Olarewaju gave Dabo ₦250,000 towards his business and said four other people with verifiable businesses would receive ₦250,000 each.
An elderly resident also raised concerns about the needs of older people in the constituency.
The discussion further touched on the condition of healthcare facilities and the need for greater access to equipment and opportunities for young people.
The event comes as political activity begins to build ahead of the 2027 elections, with residents increasingly engaging candidates over issues affecting their communities. The forum was organised independently of the political candidates, who participated in the session and responded to questions from attendees.
