The reactions that followed the kickoff of this new menu were mostly hilarious discussions and engagement and not hiding the fact that inflation has hugely impacted purchasing power and food consumption.

The organisation’s move is a surprising shift from it’s strict use of Chicken in it’s menu, which might be as a result of the country’s harsh economic situation.

As indicated by social media remarks, this is one more harsh reminder of the cutting of costs of items to satisfy the needs of the Nigerian buyer. This is a route many producers have taken to stay beneficial in the midst of the shrinking working-class buying power.

Nigeria is battling worsening insecurity, food supply shortages owing to unsafe distribution routes, power failure, continued import of refined oil products which affects price and quality, and the spillover effect of the Russia-Ukraine war which has caused a shrink in the availability of fertilisers and wheat – the product used in making rice substitutes like pasta and noodles.

“The FAO has reported that 14.4 million people in Nigeria are already in a food crisis, and another five million are likely to be added to this number by August,” the SBM report said
