Nigeria has recorded a spike in number of deaths from the novel Coronavirus bringing the total toll to 200 fatalities.
Coronavirus cases in Nigeria increased further on Wednesday with 284 new cases reported by the country, despite efforts by authorities to flatten the curve of the pandemic bringing the country’s total infections to 6677 .
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, 8 new fatalities were recorded while 106 new discharges were made making total recoveries to 1840.
Data from the NCDC shows that 27 states in Nigeria has recorded each at least one death related to the novel coronavirus with Lagos state recording the highest of 40 , Kano 36 and Borno 24 which are the top 3 states with high records of fatalities.
Other states are Sokoto, Kastina, FCT, Ogun, Delta, Edo has recorded 6 deaths each , Also Zamfara and Bauchi has 5 Fatalities While Oyo, Kaduna, Rivers, Osun , Kebbi recorded 4 deaths each
The other states Jigawa, Gombe with 3 deaths each, Akwaibom , Ekiti recording 2 deaths while a death each has been recorded in Kwara, Plateau, Nassarawa,Ondo, Yobe, Adamawa and Niger states.
Lagos remains the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria with 199 more cases, bringing the state’s total to 2,954.
However, Kogi and Cross River state remain the only two states in the country that have not recorded any coronavirus cases.
