Satellite Town: Residents Protest Police Harassment

Residents of Oguntedo, Satellite Town, Oriade Local Government of Lagos State, stormed the palace of their traditional ruler, protesting what they termed incessant Police harassment.

They said the situation worsened with the death of one person allegedly shot by policemen invited over a land matter between the royal family of Oguntedo community, Lagos State, the Federal Government and some land speculators.

The residents called on the Federal Government to wade into the matter, to stop further harassment and killing in the area.

Addressing the press during the protest in Satellite Town, the traditional ruler of Oguntedo and Satellite Town community, Oba Latifu Sadoku Olarinde, Olu Oba 1 of Satellite Town, lamented the attitude and manner in which men of FSARS harass his subjects.

He said:

“I have relocated from my palace to a remote area for safety, pending when the court decides the case. I have also received several invitations from all the Police units for explanation, which I honoured concerning a matter that is still in court.

“The development led to the death of a boy in front of my palace. I see the entire situation as disrespect to the Rule of Law and the court. I am appealing to the Police to observe some restraint until the matter is decided by the court, the last hope of the common man.”
