Two cars worth 2.2M Naira which was carted away by a clearing agent in satellite town has been found.
According to source, Mr Saheed Balogun, A 52 Year old clearing agent has been apprehended by the police.
Mr Balogun was arrested by the police for alleged forgery of Customs documents to clear two cars at the Clarion Bonded Terminal in Alakija, Satellite Town, Lagos State.
Balogun and his accomplices at large had reportedly used the documents to remove the cars, a fairly-used Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Camry valued at N2.2m, from the firm’s premises.
Source culled that they were about to drive the cars out of the premises when it was discovered that the documents were allegedly forged.
While others reportedly fled, Balogun was caught and handed over to the police at the Ajeromi division in the state.
He was subsequently brought before an Ajegunle Magistrate’s Court on three counts of conspiracy, forgery and stealing by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan.
Aigbokhan told the court that the offences contravened sections 287, 365 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The charges read in part, “That you, Saheed Balogun, and others at large on August 26, 2018, at about 10am, at Clarion Bonded Terminal, Alakija, Satellite Town, Lagos, in the Apapa Magisterial District, did steal one 2003 Toyota Corolla unregistered fairly-used car valued at N1.2m and one 2003 Toyota Camry fairly-used car valued at N1m, property of Clarion Bonded Terminal in Alakija, Satellite Town, Lagos.
“That you, Saheed Balogun, and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did forge Nigeria Customs Service’s clearing documents to clear one Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Camry at Clarion Bonded Terminal, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 365 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the counts and elected summary trial.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomako, admitted him to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate added that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned till October 04, 2018.
