A three-storey building has collapsed in the Alakija area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, prompting an emergency rescue operation as authorities work to determine the number of people trapped beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday near the Alakija Bridge inward Satellite Town, according to eyewitness accounts.
Residents and passers-by were seen rushing to the scene shortly after the collapse, while emergency responders and security personnel moved in to begin rescue efforts.
As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties had not been confirmed, although several persons were feared trapped inside the collapsed structure.
The incident also disrupted movement along parts of the busy Alakija corridor, with motorists experiencing traffic delays as rescue operations continued.
Confirming the development, emergency management officials said the state’s response mechanism was activated immediately after distress calls were received.
According to emergency responders, rescue teams were deployed to the scene to conduct search-and-rescue operations and assess the extent of the collapse.
Personnel from multiple agencies, including security operatives, emergency management officials and other relevant authorities, were observed coordinating efforts at the site.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) also confirmed that an excavator had been deployed to assist rescue teams in accessing sections of the collapsed building where victims may be trapped.
Officials of the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos State Building Control Agency and other emergency responders were reportedly on ground managing the situation.
The building collapse has generated concern among residents within the Alakija, Satellite Town and Festac corridor, many of whom rely on the route daily for commuting and business activities.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collapse, while rescue efforts remain ongoing.
