Walking Aides & Chairs Distributed In Amuwo Odofin+ Photos

The physically challenged in Amuwo Odofin have not been left out of charity and benevolent acts as up to 250 wheel chairs and walking aides were distributed.

The Amuwo Odofin local government partnered with Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation of Nigeria facilitated to give out 250 wheel chairs to people suffering from brittle bone disease for free.

The PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED people are part of our society who have been denied an opportunity to live life to the fullest; people are ashamed to be identified with them. They see them as possessed, different, imbecile forgetting that they are first human before being seen as persons of disabilities. These people have a right to live, exercise their human right and enjoy undeniable access to social amenities.- Valentine Buraimoh

The wheelchairs and walking aids were given freely at no cost to the beneficiaries who are Brittle Bone patients, at the Council Secretariat, Festac Town, Lagos on Monday November 19th 2018.

The LG Chairman, Valentine Buraimoh addressing newsmen stated that there are a lot of children in Nigeria suffering from this rare condition. He further averred that people with this condition have bones that break easily, often from little or no trauma.

He said, the Physically Challenged people are an important segment of the society. *“We must ensure that we do not hide our challenged children but take them to the right and certified places where they can get help and learn skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the society.

The key to recording success with any disability is Early Intervention. Which means from the day they are born and diagnosed with a disability, immediate meaningful steps should be taken rather than being locked up and denied a chance to live.”

In appreciation, he thanked the partner of this noble gesture, Mrs Tarela Aghanti for her large heart and also appealed to organizations to support the government in her quest to bring the dividends of democracy to the doorstep of the governed.

” Let me use this opportunity to commend our partner for this wonderful gesture. Individuals like her are very rare. On behalf of the good people of this Local Government, I say thank you.”
